A mandrill alpha male poses with folded hands like it was sitting for a portrait painting. It sat like this, all calm, for almost half an hour letting me photograph it and that gave a unique chance to capture a palette of subtle expressions and feelings. The mandrill is often portrayed as aggressive and dangerous. I wanted to show its more gentle, ‘humane’ sides.
