The golden snub-nosed monkey, found in the same temperate mountain forests in Western China as the giant panda, is one of the world’s most colorful monkeys with its orange fur and blue face. I noticed that it had a peculiar habit that could give me the icing on the cake for a portrait. When it was observing other troop members with a focused look on its face it would from time to time stick out its tongue. I managed to capture the moment and the pink tongue created a perfect trinity of intense colors. The golden snub-nosed monkey is one of the monkey species living in the coldest areas and during the winter it often experiences snow and frost. The picture is taken in the month of December when the monkey was dressed in its thick, beautiful winter coat.
