Winner of the Animal Portraits category of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 56 (2020).
Sometimes when I photograph monkeys there is one individual in particular that makes a special impression, an individual with a particularly captivating personality. With the proboscis monkeys of Borneo, it was this bachelor, a young male that had not yet grown his huge nose. He had the most serene expression on his face that I have ever seen in a monkey and several times he would lean his head back, close his eyes, showing his light-blue eyeshadow, and disappear into his inner world, almost like he was meditating.
