It's cold and I'm tired after a drive of several hundred
kilometers, most of which were on gravel road across Iceland's
highlands. I have traveled here to take pictures and gather
inspiration for next year's photo workshop.
I am looking at one of the most breathtaking sceneries I have ever
seen. I'm in the center highlands of Iceland. I've got a tip about
this place one of the locals. The mountains are yellow and orange -
I am in one of Iceland's geothermal areas. It is late afternoon,
the sun is low, and although it is only the beginning of September,
it has been snowing. I am quite alone in this amazing
landscape.
I decide to create a panorama of the scenery, so I prepare the
tripod. Just as I mount the camera it happens - the low sun breaks
through the clouds and lights the snowy mountain peaks on the left
side of my motive. I need to work quickly to capture this. I decide
to measure the light on the snowy mountains and compensate by 1
exposure value. The camera is on manual, and I take a serie of
photos with appropriate overlap.
I've only just finished the 8 images, when the sun disappear. It
all lasted less than 1 minute, but I got my pictures. I just hoped
they could be put together without visible transitions - and
fortunately they could - a truly magical moment.
The picture is for sale in the gallery's limited edition
series.
